Blog v Wiki

A blog Is like an online journal. For example, in the blog “Wal-Mart Tastemakers Write Unfiltered Blog,” by Michael Barbaro, a Walmart employee bashed Microsoft’s new operating system, even though Microsoft Is one of Wal-Mart’s biggest suppliers. Wiki, on the other hand, can be edited very fast inside the web browser, and it is contributed to by many people, whereas a blog is written by a single or very few people. For example, in the article “More on How to Build Your Own Wikipedia,” by Margaret Locher, it talks about how a wiki is supposed to be set up. For example, in a wiki, groups of users create, edit and comment on online documents. This way, each team member could contribute and access the information on the document. This is similar to google docs.
Convergence is important because you can access phone, video and data communication services with one network. Therefore, one company can provide you services that involve all forms of communication.
Blogs can be used for collaboration by acting as a stimulate for sharing, shaping and creating business value, internally and externally. Externally by sharing your experiences with the world and let random people comment on what you are doing. Internally, for a company, bloggers might help one think of new possibilities and new ideas, and let you know that what you are doing is good and positive, or the contrary.

A new use for wiki that might be exciting and different is a job posting site. Imagine if people in your area post jobs that are available, and viewers comment on this specific job with any details that come to mind. This can be unique and exciting.

  1. Orr, I think you compared blogs verses wikis in a very clear way and provided great references to prove your points. I especially liked your idea for a new wiki page, personally I am in the process of searching for jobs. Searching for a job is a lot of work and I think it would be very useful to create a wiki for job posting. I would definitely use it if you create it ! :)
